Paul Walbran Motors

Following the 2002 Nationals which celebrated 50 years of MG clubs in New Zealand all agreed to have a bi-annual Nationals meeting to be held alternately in each island.

MGers are coming from both islands, and we expect anything up to 160 cars, representing Pre 56 through to modern day MGs.

The theme for 2012 links classic and vintage cars and airplanes as we are basing our activities around the historic Hood Aerodrome in Masterton, Wairarapa.

Set in the heart of the Wairarapa (means ‘glistening waters’) one of New Zealand’s top wine producing regions, featuring nice scenery, cute towns and even their own Stonehenge.

The area is known as being one of the leading places in the world building and restoring WW1 fighter aircraft.

Peter Jackson’s museum is on the grounds of the airfield along with other vintage aircraft enthusiasts’ hangers and WW1 aircraft are regularly seen flying out of Hood. Aircraft for the Dam Busters movie are often seen here.

Rally activities will include:

a.		The usual concours, motorkhana and speed event, either autocross or bent sprint.
b.		Registration with BBQ on Friday evening.
c.		Saturday evening will be a theme dinner at Hood, Vintage Aviators and driver’s attire is required for the evening. Prizes will be given to the best dressed.
d.		Lunches are included in the registration fee as are all breakfasts and dinners except Sunday evening which is a free evening.
e.		A visit to a winery for lunch.
f.		Balloon Trial which will be a 1st to New Zealand and only ever been done 3 times before in the USA. It will be an early start that day but a breakfast will be provided from 6am with the balloons set to fly at 7am. Competitors will then follow the flight path of the 5 balloons and collect a playing card from each one. The best poker hand wins but a few other tests will be added in to make it more fun.
g.		A Prizegiving dinner on Monday night and a farewell breakfast Tuesday morning.

Accommodation has been reserved at the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Solway Park Wairarapa at special rates for attendees. The room rate is $169.50 per night which includes breakfasts on the Saturday and Tuesday. It will include all meals from Friday nights BBQ to Monday nights Prizegiving dinner except Sunday evening which is a free evening for attendees.
