MG Car Club (Wellington Centre) Inc.
Monthly Noggin 'N Natter on the 2nd Wednesday of the month (except January)
Held at The Waterloo pub opposite
Wellington Railway Station
We usually have a speaker on the night on various interesting topics.
Monthly Club Night on the last Wednesday (except December)
Held at a variety of venues, usually restaurants. Typically of an informal nature, with special activities from time to time.
Check out the Calendar, look in Coming Events in
the Bulletin and watch for email notification.
"The Bulletin" Publication - the Club Magazine
Produced approx. every two months 6 times per year, in A5 format, by
a dedicated member of the Club,
contains information, articles, coming events, for sale, wanted to buy,
sponsors messages (adverts) etc. Available at Club nights, or mailed to members.
Grass and/or Tarseal Motorkhanas
We try to hold several per year, as they are very popular, great fun and within everybody's capability, once they try it.
You can go as fast, or as slow, as you like. Frequently held at McKays crossing, but they can move around.
We also participate in the Wellington Stewards Trophy Motorkhana series which is interclub and for the more competitive by nature, (most of us).
Rambles
A purely social activity, where we select a destination somewhere not too distant and basically ramble our way there for lunch, in as near to a convoy formation as the other traffic will allow.
Examples include an annual Daffodil run to Middle Run in the Wairarapa, to ramble in the daffodil fields and pick copious quantities and support the cancer fund, or to Swingers golf range in the Wairarapa, or simply a picnic somewhere. An expanding and key area of activity.
Trials
We occasionally run a simplified version of trials which suits all levels of drivers. Typically these are based on a photographic basis with clues to be located and identified. Good fun and definitely low key events. None of your exact average speeds and directions like, "least line of deviation stuff", for us. Tend to end up at a feeding station of some kind for a refuel and chat.
Dinners
Periodically we arrange to go somewhere, usually cheap and cheerful, for a natter and a bit of R&R. Although we are a "best of British MG marque", we usually end up eating Italian or Chinese. We also have "bring a plate" style dinners at a committee member's house from time to time, which are informal gatherings of like enthusiasts and a good opportunity for partners to participate on neutral ground.
Annual Dinner
Held in August or September each year in a private restaurant somewhere central. Includes the annual prizegiving for those who have achieved winner status in an event. Probably the most formal of all our occasions, but definitely not black tie material.
AGM
Held in late July or August, each year and always attracts a strong turnout, which reflects the degree of interest of the members in the Club and it's affairs. Membership runs from 1 July to 30 June each year.
Committee & Officers
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Committee of usually 5 or 6 others
Go Cart Racing
From time to time we participate in a challenge series against another Club or 2 for a challenge series typically at the Marina Raceway in Seaview. Great fun, if a little bruising.
Parades
We love to participate in parades. Also a growing number of other show type events. An opportunity to display your toy and share the pride of ownership with a large number of children. Highly recommended, although it can be a little hard on your clutch leg and your cooling system is well tested. We are also usually invited to any other special occasions that happen along.
Easter Rally
Each Easter we get together with the MG'ers from Auckland and have a National Rally weekend at
a central location. Organising is rotated between the Centres. Suffice to say it's a great opportunity to wine, dine, race, polish and talk. Events include BBQ, Concours, a Trial, Timed speed sessions, a GrassKkana and a final Dinner. Competition is lively and keen, but fun.
MG Classic Motor Race - is in November, full details included in
this web site
The Leading Classic race in the country, and the biggest Motorsport Race
event of any kind. Held over 2 days at Manfield, catering for some 300 vehicles. The sense of pride you can get by being a member of the team that puts on an event of this standing is highly valued by our members, apart from the opportunity of the best seats in the house in our sponsors and members marque.
