Bespoke Race Track
Timing System

MG Car Club Wellington has invested in the design, development and bringing to realisation of a world-class race timing system.

Our challenge was to provide an up to the minute, highly redundant, PC based state of the art system that still retained the human element and minimised the risks from any external factors such as power or PC failure.

We didn't want to be too high tech and have issues with spurious RF readings, false lap timings etc, we wanted simply to have the right cars in the right race and to accurately time all the cars, all of the time.

Don't be fooled by the laid back classic persona, times must still be dead accurate or questions are asked!

Well, we have achieved it; in conjunction with the team of Graham Dumbleton, Chris Parker (Custom Softare Solutions), Dave Kearney (NT Services) and Trevor Boone (Theseus Management Group) aka Mr MG, we have created something special.

It features an integrated race database for entries and grid creation for up to 50 cars. It incorporates fully, redundant W95 PC's, breakout controllers and 25 dual car timing devices.

It also sorts grid positions, prints grid schedules, prints car grid adhesive labels and of course results race by race, results driver by driver, exports to the web and a few other things as well.

Overall control of the race is in the hands of the manager who, once the grid data has been populated to the race control PC and the timing devices, has the race commence function. The timers simply click off the laps as their 2 cars rotate, (with an whoops, that wasn't my car button included), full auditing of the race results then occurs with preset variable exception parameters.

Current development is an on-line function to replace the PED-LAN driver information kiosk system. We have drawn the line at satellite communication with the pits, but radio coms from the dummy grid to the database has been designed!
